Southern Gothic literature is a genre of Southern writing. The stories often focus on grotesque themes. While it may sometimes include supernatural themes/elements, it mainly focuses on damaged, even delusional characters. Southern Gothic explores the cultural setting and current social issues (which is very present in To Kill a Mockingbird).
