2. What are the ideological differences of each type of government? The Soviet Union’s fundamental ideas that it was founded upon is to create a country powerful and strong in the military and also in the category of economy. In order for the Soviet Union to flourish in the industry, Stalin established a law that would limit the worker’s freedom and control their every aspect of the worker’s lives. In other words Stalin and his government took control of the economy. Stalin then came up with the idea of Five Year Plan in the 1928 which allowed rapid growth in the industry and the military defense. In ten years, Soviet Union had become a major industrial power. From his annexation of Sudetenland, Germany were able obtain Czechoslovakia’s most important frontier defenses and industrial resources. Germany’s military improved thanks to Hitler’ new type of warfare, Blitzkrieg. He was also successful in increasing the German currency from 1933 to 1939 where he was able to raise it to 30 billion Reichsmarks. Also, Germany were able to acquire land in Poland because they made a nonaggression pact with Stalin and his nation, agreeing to split Poland between the two countries. In this government, the citizens did not have much freedom, however, they were allowed personal property and the freedom of assembly and of association although it was limited and real property mostly belonged to the State and Workers were not allowed to organize free trade unions. The citizens’ freedom of religion, freedom of movement, freedom of literary and scientific expression, and the freedom of political expression were taken away. Many churches were destroyed or converted to government building and the religious leader were hunted down and persecuted in exchange, the Soviet State and cult of Stalin replaced the religion. Every citizen of the Soviet Union was not allowed to neither move out of the State nor allow any to pass through the borders to the Soviet Union. Literary and scientific expression were carefully looked upon by the government and if they were to see anything that they thought was against the rule of the Soviet government, scientists and authors were immediately tracked down and were held for treason.
