The space program has been something many people have found fascinating within the thirty-six years of its existence, but has it come time for all the exploration to end? Maybe not so fast, the extremely pricey and dangerous program comes with many perks that do not deserve to go unnoticed. For example, space exploration has brought people new jobs, new discoveries, and great protection.With these, maybe continuing the space program is not such a bad idea after all. Although space exploration has many benefits, there are still those who stand against it. For instance, one argument against resuming the space program is how overwhelmingly expensive it is. According to Foust, “A fiscal year 2017 spending bill approved by a Senate appropriations subcommittee April 19 would give NASA $19.3 billion.” That is an exceptionally large budget, and those in opposition to the space program believe the money could be used for more helpful things. They argue that the U.S. could possibly use the money for things like helping people in need or creating more educational programs for the youth. What they may not realize is how many jobs NASA has given people. This seems to be a question everyone throughout history has been interested in finding out, and maybe it is possible. So far, NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope has discovered numerous planets beyond the solar system that could possibly have forms of life on them. Also, in 2018, the James Webb Telescope will have a chance of discovering a twin planet to Earth that could be hosting extraterrestrial life. Like these, there are many new discoveries to be made that can help people learn if there really are other forms of life in space.
