This war is a war between the Allies and the Axis. The Axis consists of three main countries, Nazi Germany, Empire of Japan and Kingdom of Italy. On the other hand, the Allies consists of the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and the United States and there was two important countries that soon joined the Allies, China and France.
Most veterans make great contributions to society on the battlefield. Others do their part behind the lines or at home. Dwight David ‘Ike’ Eisenhower (1890-1969) was never on the front lines, yet he had a greater impact on the world than many other veterans of his time. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, rose through the ranks, and then served in the Second World War. Here, he demonstrated his prowess as a leader by becoming the Supreme Allied Commander and orchestrating the recapture of Europe.
On June 22nd, 1941, the Germans invaded the Soviet Union under the codename, “Operation Barbarossa”. Operation Barbarossa is the second largest military conflict in the military history. In 1939, Hitler signed a nonaggression pact with Joseph Stalin, the Soviet Union’s dictator, in which they would have no military action for the next ten years. However not even two years later, Hitler ordered to invade the Soviet Union. This invasion was only suppose to last three to six months; instead it lasted for about three years.
