Why we should fund SpaceX. On February 6th 2018, the space company SpaceX put on a show for the world with a test demo of their Falcon Heavy rocket, launching it into orbit with Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster in as cargo. This is was the most powerful rocket launch to date, and to provide an even more feat of accomplishment, three of its phase one boosters successfully landed back on earth after launch. The world was in awe, and SpaceX once again proved how capable it was of these groundbreaking achievements. There are countless beneficial effects this launch can have on society and the world of technology. These operations are opening up space and its many opportunities more than any other organization in the world right now. With more financial …show more content…
But they’re not independent launches, they’re performing launches on behalf of organizations such as NASA, Air-Force, and the top-secret U.S National Reconnaissance Office (Wilson 1). These companies are benefiting from SpaceX’s position and availability. To give a specific example, SpaceX is now executing supply runs for NASA and other participating countries to the ISS space station to restock the supplies they are in need of. With a company like this in a position they are in helping other organizations, financial funding would only add to the assistance they can perform. The new launches by SpaceX are also possibly the start of an exciting new time that could impact the U.S and other countries: a new space race. Elon Musk has openly stated that one of his main goals and perseverance is to put people on mars and potentially colonize it. He even goes as far as saying we could be sending astronauts to the Red Planet as soon as 2024 (Musk 1). This situation is similar to the U.S’s ambition to put human on the moon in the 1960’s. During that period there was an obvious political competition between the U.S and Russia to be the first to put a human on the moon. While the circumstances were much different back then than they are now, a similar situation could still take place today. Other countries such as China and Russia have large uprising space programs with capable resources as well. Seeing the success and future plans for spaceX could incite them to invest more in their space program, and bring in a new inflush of space exploration technology around the world, opening all sorts of new doors and innovations to propell space flight into the future, maybe even all the way to Mars. With the possibility and large influence the company is having on the world of technology and the world as a whole, funding SpaceX is a beneficial
