Sometimes, it takes someone a lot of courage to speak up and for others it takes some patience to listen to those who needs them to listen. Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel Speak, tells a story about a freshman student named Melinda Sordino in her point of view. First, her time in high school isn’t off to a great start. Prior to the beginning of the novel, a summer end party was held before the start of secondary school when suddenly Melinda contacted the cops due to an unidentified incident between her and a popular senior student named Andy Evans. Her actions caused her to lose contact with her friends and made everyone that consists of her classmates, her peers and even strangers, to look down on her.
