The fictional novel, Speak, is written by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is a dramatic type, about teen depression, fear, and loneliness. It’s about a girl, who is a victim, but is accused of being the criminal. This is a story of Melinda, who lost her normal life due to a life changing, daunting experience, caused by a foolish boy, and she will never be the same. Melinda Sordino, she is in her High School, Merryweather high, and she is also the narrator of the story. Andy Evans, he is an attractive senior, but with a bad reputation with girls. He raped Melinda at an end-of-summer party. Heather, she is a new girl at the school, she becomes friends with Melinda because she had no other friends. Turns out that Heather was not a good friend after all. Rachel, she was Melinda’s former bff. But because of the incident …show more content…

Melinda Sordino is a teenager who lost her great life due to a boy at school who raped her at a party. She called the cops, for reasons nobody else new about and busted the party. For this she lost her friends, and herself. She tried to tell and warn other people of Andy, but she was just criticized and bullied. She ends up finding her voice and is rewarded with the return of her regular life.
Melinda had to find a way to live with the fact that she had lost all of her friends and their trust, or in other words, figure out how to live with depression. Melinda had Rachel and Heather, but they left her because she was ‘selfish’ and ‘foolish’ for calling the cops. Melinda is not interested in gaining popularity and spends most of her time in a janitor 's closet at school. She has stolen some late passes, so she uses the closet as a hideout to avoid teachers she dislikes and painful interactions with her former friends.
