Special education came into existence almost exclusively within the last 50 years. Nearly 200 years after the United States was established in 1776, little but none was done to help advance the rights of disabled students. As a matter of fact, over 4.5 million children were denied any academic schooling before legislation to ensure equal education opportunities to the children with special needs. Becoming a Special Education teacher means that you would need to work with students who have a wide variety of mental, emotional, physical, and learning disabilities. Having a state-issued certification or license is also needed. Majors like Elementary education, special education or an academic subject would be essential, with the minor degree of special education. If someone is looking for something similar to this career, I would suggest in pursuing something like Childcare Workers, Elementary or Middle school teaching jobs. If someone is interested in this career than you should know what the time schedule, physical environment, location and salary would be like. Time schedule is very organized and an easy way for the kids to cope better, and help them understand their surroundings. The physical environment in the career is being surrounded by special needs kids, and hands on learning. The location to this career is not only the kids classroom for learning, but include many different places. Such as museums, parks, fast food places or anything that the teachers plan for their students to have a great day out of the classroom. Such as going to college and getting a bachelor's degree in special education, looking for the right job that I qualify for and making sure my desire stays alive. There are a ton of colleges that offer the required major for this career. Such include, Arizona State University(ASU), Grand Canyon University(GCU), or Northern Arizona University(NAU). Many other schools offer an amazing program for special education, and it’s a great opportunity to take. This job will and will not require me to move. It all depends on the specific job that I apply for after my degree. Some jobs like one on one experiences may need the acceptance of moving, but something like teaching at a school for a class may not. Everything depends on your wants and your desires of teaching to the special needs
