I am interested in becoming a TK assistant teacher at Providence Day School. I believe my pedagogical style reflects the Providence Day commitment to students, allowing students to be intellectual risk-takers within a community of supportive learners and educators. My life experiences and my enthusiasm will allow me to teach with compassion and understanding to help students achieve academic success while nurturing their social and emotional skills. I will be graduating from Queens University of Charlotte with a degree in Elementary Education on May 6, 2017. I am currently completing my student teaching in first-grade at Sharon Elementary School.
After my child-care leave, I used my Professional Diploma in counseling to work as a college advisor and counselor and was twice selected Counselor of the Year. Teaching has been an important aspect of my family. My son, David, is teaching English literature and writing on the campus of the City University. My daughter, Sharon, who is severely challenged, is surely the best teacher in our family.
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.

During this meeting, the Director of Special Education and the teacher will come up with an individual success plan. Individual success plans vary by each person. Some success plans can include weekly one-on-one meetings, bi-weekly phone calls, one night/month of paperwork, etc. For brand new teachers, the Director of Special Education will take on a Directive Style, whereas for veteran teachers, the Director of Special Education might take on a Coaching Style. A Directive Style gives an authoritative approach to provide the subordinate detailed goals and tasks while closely monitoring their performance and success.
I see myself professionally five years from now as an educator leading an organization that provides services to children with disabilities that helps them discover their strengths and creates a positive vision for their future careers. My interest in Special Education goes back to the time when I was 2nd year High school. Since I was studying in a catholic school, we were required to join various outreach programs. At a young age, I was already exposed to the life outside the prestigious school. I used to teach unfortunate children in a squatter area.
As an educator focused on student-centered learning in science, I am excited for the opportunity to become a S.T.E.A.M. teacher within Maumee City Schools. Opportunities for students participating in S.T.E.A.M. education afford experiences enriched by lessons focused on the integration of critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem solving. I believe I am an excellent candidate to develop and implement S.T.E.A.M. initiatives within Maumee City Schools. First, I have a strong background in science, as I majored in biology and recently took 15 Master's level courses within the fields of biology, ecology, and evolutionary science during my Education Specialist program.

My qualifications that demonstrate my ability to be an asset to your Master Degree program of Education of the Deaf, is my background in Deaf Studies where I have received my Associate degree at Quinsigamond Community college. Furthermore, my degree has allotted me the necessary communication skills and cultural sensitivity, needed in order for me to work with the individual who has been the diagnosis of hard of hearing and deaf. This has enhanced and further developed my perspective and understanding of different teaching pedagogies. As a teaching assistant I supported two boys with autism from year 2 to year 4. During this time I would regularly have to adapt class lesson plans to cater to their specific needs, and use a variety of multi-sensory techniques, for them to access the lesson and enhance their learning further. At present I’m working as an outreach inclusions co-ordinator for the Greenwich Support Team for Education in Primary and Secondary schools (STEPS). As an outreach co-ordinator I support 15 schools within Greenwich offering support, advice and resources to teaching staff.

I spent my fifteen hours observing two special education classrooms at Sulphur Intermediate School. One focused on math and the other on reading, though many of the children I observed worked in both classrooms. The students were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Most of the students had mild to moderate disabilities and simply needed extra help in reading, math, or both subjects. They did not stay for the entire day, but rather came for certain periods.
It was the day that I’ve been waiting for over 3 years. A day that would finally let me be normal like everyone else and have the choices as other people without being ridiculed by the teachers that saw me as unqualified to be taught in a standard way. Thanks to my mom thinking that it would be a marvelous idea to have me be placed in special education due to my lack of effort taking reading comprehension test. I was placed in special education at the end of 5th grade, and sought to see the end of it. That day would eventually come on early April of 2015, where I was called upon to the office during class in 8th grade.
