Symbolism is around every corner in the book Lord of the Flies. From each of the boy ’s and every item that they have. Piggy is a brilliant boy, and his spectacles may light the rescue fire, but they symbolize the wisdom of the boys. The conch may look like a shell, but it represents all order on the island. The island may have seemed like a no rule and no parent paradise but soon burned down in flames. The boys have a system where whoever is holding the conch is to speak his mind, and no one can interrupt them which shows that the boys are very civilized. Now when the boys have the conch, it defines law and order and of the whole island. When the boys follow the rules it shows that they are civilized and the can live on their own.“The conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”(Golding 209). The conch from the beginning of the books color has faded. The conch changing colors is a symbol of order leaving the island and the savages taking over. The system of rules the boys created doesn’t seem to matter any more. The savages feel that the rules get in their way.
