Sport utility vehicles like a Nissan Xterra and a Jeep Cherokee appear to be equal in many ways, but have very different attributes. They may seem to do the exact same thing when it comes to suspension and frame. They might also seem to have around the same gas mileage. Also, they may even seem the same when it comes to maintenance. While both vehicles are classified under a sport utility vehicle, they each have their own ups and downs. Lets take a look and see what makes these two makes and models so different. Nissan came out with the xterra as the first full size sport utility vehicle, and were built very well. But, the Nissan xterra gets around 19 city and 24 highway. The jeep Cherokee on the other hand gets around 21 city and 25 highway. Needless to say they are around the same gas mileage. By owning both vehicles they are about the same price to fill up at the pump, except the Nissan xterra has a 19 gallon tank and the jeep Cherokee has a 20 gallon tank. The Nissan xterra also seems to get a lot less mileage than what is listed compared to the jeep Cherokee which seems to get a lot more. They both have a 6 cylinder engine and four wheel drive. A thing to look at is the oil change. When changing the oil on a Nissan xterra it will require only three and a half quarts of oil. The jeep Cherokee will require a full six quarts of oil. Changing the oil in both vehicles it is quite simple. When changing the spark plugs in the Nissan it is quite difficult, where in the jeep they are all in reach and located right on the side of the valve cover. On the other hand, they will both take six spark plugs each. When it comes to belt maintenance the Nissan has three different belts and layer one right behind the next. The jeep on the other hand has one belt and makes it very easy to change. Both vehicles are the same when engaging the four wheel drive with just a pull of the lever.
