Superbowl, World Cup, Stanley cup, Us open. Everyone loves watching these events. Sports have always been a big part of our everyday lives. Unfortunately, most people don’t do anything more than just watch their favorite sports. When people participate in sports and athletic programs, it can keep them physically and mentally healthy as well as keep our youth on the right track for their futures. Studies have shown that areas with more available athletic programs do better than other areas that don’t have as many athletic programs in their communities. The implementation of more sports programs in our communities will have many benefits to our towns and cities. In the article “Sports Psychology” from The Gale Encyclopedia of Psychology, it states “Research on wrestlers, runners, and oarsmen found lower levels of depression, tension, hostility, and fatigue among more successful athletes when compared with their peers and with the general population.” (pp. 624-626).The explanation for this is that when someone is doing an athletic activity on a daily basis, they stimulate a part of their brain associated with rewards and achievements that make them feel good. In another article also titled “Sports Psychology” from World of Sports Science, it talks about psychological techniques that athletes develop when involved in a sport. These techniques are things like Imagery and Simulation, Mood and Stress management, and Goal setting. Good mental condition makes for a good productive society. Watching it, playing it, looking up scores, or even just talking about it.You can connect with others and keep yourself busy doing something you like. A community can benefit from this in the way that it will bring people together by that connection of the sport or athletic program. I know that by participating in soccer, I have met a lot of players and coaches from within my own club and even with other teams and coaches. Even my family from just going to watch me play can connect with people on the sidelines and make friends with strangers from a single sports
