Sputnik and Russian innovation had an impact on American education because when Russia created Sputnik, the Russians thought we didn’t do it before them because we weren’t educated enough. Russia did not think we were capable to create a satellite, so our government changed the American education system. “If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the Mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.” This quote shows that the Russians did not approve of the American education which, is why we changed it. This quote also shows that maybe we took this as a threat from the Russians to change our education system.
