Confessions. One may confess directly to the person and get it off their chest. Some may go to confession, which is simply a sacrament and a Christian practice when an individual talks privately to their priest and admit their sins. St. Augustine wrote an autobiography called “Confessions”. Theres are multiple books to summarize how he went from sinful to faithful by confessing all the wrongdoings he performed. There are thirteen books all together. The first nine talk about St. Augustine’s life as a Christian up to his mother’s death. The final four are pure theology and philosophy. The genre of this autobiography is philosophical literature because all religious scripture is philosophical. “Confessions” proves God’s greatness and how nobody is perfect. We are all sinners. If someone is truthful and honest about everything, they won’t have that dark deep feeling inside of guilt and regret. I honestly believe he was simply trying to get his life together by writing these books. He probably needed to get all of his ideas on paper then figure out what the right thing to do was. For example, he knew that from a kid he would lie a lot and commit numerous sins, but he didn’t realize that by making that connection with God and having that realization of what God is capable of, changed his life for the better. So, is there a duality? I believe not. I think St. Augustine was just trying to figure everything out then got his life
