St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the number one leading pediatric hospital in the world, they freely share their discoveries in towards finding a cure for pediatric cancer with every other cancer hospital in the world. This hospital was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas, where he stated that, "no child should die in the dawn of life." Ever since the founding, St. Jude has become a leader in the way that the world understands, treats, and defeats pediatric cancer; and not only cancer but other life-threatening diseases in children. Throughout the fifty-six years that St. Jude has been operating, not a single family has received a bill for treatment, travel, food, or housing--because Danny Thomas made it clear that all a family should have to worry about is their child surviving. Since the doors opened, St. Jude has raised the survival rate of pediatric cancer from twenty percent to eighty percent, while they haven't yet reached their goal of one-hundred percent—they fully intend to. Jude Children's Research Hospital is so diverse and so many different countries are represented through the staff and patients seen at the hospital. In the Danny Thomas Research Center there is a flag hung from the ceiling from each country a staff member has travelled from to work at the world-class hospital. Also, in this room, is the patients' good luck charm—the statue of founder Danny Thomas' head. Before chemotherapy or surgeries, it is a tradition to rub his head and is said to bring good luck. The Danny Thomas Research Center is cool because of the flags and leading into the building there is a blue wall with the names of every person to have donated a certain amount of money to the hospital. It is so awesome knowing that our treatment is being actively fundraised for and donated towards, by people who don’t even know us.
