Mowat’s rhetorical strategies Wolves for thousands of years have been one of man’s greatest enemies. In Farley Mowat’s book, published in 1963, he makes us rethink why we are still at war with this species. Never Cry Wolf is about Mowat’s adventure as he studies wolves in the Northern Canadian Plains. His research brought him to become friends with Eskimos and a small family of wolves that he’s learned to respect and love. During his six month period he learns that wolves have been wrongly judged and are not the beasts that they have been titled.
In Mary Pipher’s passage, Saplings in The Storm, Pipher claims that young big-hearted girls are changing as they age. She claims that the nature and source of these problems come from the fairy tales, which capture the essence of change, and approval of others. The longing for family binds the wolf girls closer together, as in their minds they have nobody left except themselves to rely on after their parents abandon them. In both novels, Rosoff explores psychological dimensions by way of mental health concerns, while using the imagination of her respective characters as a source of psychological defence. In “St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves”, Claudette, Mirabella, and Jeanette is taken to a foreign place to adapt to human nature. They are taken through the process of 5 stages of becoming human. Claudette, the speaker of the story, is stuck between two faces, the human and the wolf face. While Claudette is in between these two worlds, she has fully conformed from wolf to human. She has completed the transformation from wolf to human because her own mother doesn 't recognize her, trying to make herself seem more like human, and not even caring about her own fellow wolf mates anymore.
In the coming of age story “Where Are You Going Where Have You Been?” Joyce Carol Oates uses symbolism, conflict, and the third person to foreshadow fifteen-year-old Connie’s unfortunate, yet untimely fate. While one may think that the conflict stems from Connie’s promiscuity, it is clear to see her promiscuity is only a result to a much bigger conflict, her mother’s constant nagging and disapproval, alongside the lack of attention from her father. the author paints a vivid picture of what happens when a fifteen-year-old girl such as Connie goes elsewhere to find to find the love, attention, and approval that she lacks at home. All which is vital for her growth and wellbeing as a person.
As she transforms back into a young girl, she recalls that her mother would instruct her “... to shed/ my costume, to braid my hair furiously/ with blind hands, and to return invisible/ as myself / to the real world of her kitchen” (25-29). The way in which she utilizes “to” in the start of every section embodies the conformity that her mother is trying to impose on her. It is no coincidence that the identical form of the sentences of her reverting to the female stereotype directly follows her mother’s orders. All of these actions go against her will to be adventurous, and it culminates in a profound statement on who a person really is. In returning invisible as herself, she explains that the person she is supposed to be is not the real her.
In the novel of the Call of the Wild, Buck tried to adapt to his new and difficult life. He was forced to help the men find gold; he experienced a big transformation in him. At the end, he transformed into a new and different dog. Buck went through physical, mental and environmental changes.
