It was about last year in 1765, when this story took place. I was sitting in a Tea shop with my family. All I heard the whole morning was people talking about the Stamp Act and that was about to be enforced on us. No sooner that about a week later they did apply the Stamp Act tous. The Stamp Act was passed on February 17, approved by the House of Lords on March 8th. Then it received Royal Assent on March 22. Last, the Stamp Act was actually took effect on November 1st by the British Parliament. This was a really important change during this time. The British were raising money in the colonies by taxing without the approval of the colonial legislatures. Most everyone was mad. They gathered under the Boston’s Liberty Tree where they proceed to march down to the Andrew Oliver’s wharf. Oliver was the appointed stamp master. Samuel Adams was a popular leader. Samuel Adams was a cousin to John Adams. Samuel Adams was trying to to keep colonist informed about British Actions. So, he was the one who informed us about the Stamp Act when we first started hearing about it. These things turned out not to be cheap. There were many people really upset about not having enough money for their kids. It was a sad time during this time with the struggle on money. Every once in awhile you would see people even crying they were so upset. The whole purpose of the Stamp Act was to pay back the money for the seven year war of the French and Indian. Not only were people in debt for the paper, they had to also buy special tax stamps for all different kinds of products and activities that there are. So Patrick Henry made a very emotional speech to the public, he was attacking the law. Henry said some good things he even mentioned the murder of Julius Caesar that took place in ancient Rome. He had a really good speech. He was an important part in the Stamp Act. He gave his famous speech in 1775. In his speech her pushed Virginians to take arms in their defense
