Stand For Nothing George Orwell

295 Words2 Pages
If you stand for nothing, you fall for anything To start, George Orwell was not liked by the Burman people. He even states, " When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman) looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter." The Burman people had no respect for George, even though he was an officer. The only time that the people had regard for him is when they needed him to kill an elephant. On that particular day, George was called upon to kill an elephant that had escaped. He did not really want to kill the elephant, but he did. He says, "I did not want to shoot the elephant, I often wondered whether any of the others grasped that I had done it solely to avoid looking a fool."
