1.Which form of assessment provides more information about students, standardized tests or teacher-made classroom assessment? When testing achievement, both tests measure what has already happened, the learning that has occurred. Differences between the tests include allotted time, structure, and content of the tests. Standardized tests are more structured, carefully administered, and match state standards, goals, and objectives. Teacher-made assessments can be much more individualized and teachers may choose to focus on certain standards that have just been taught, while standardized tests cover a wide range of standards. Standardized tests have higher rates of validity and reliability and use a variety of experts and field test to properly develop and analyze tests. Teachers are the primary writers and evaluators and scoring can be subjective in teacher-made assessments. I believe one of the benefits of teacher-made tests is that they provide information to teachers about what their students know and gives them the ability to adjust instruction and build off students’ prior knowledge. When we are comparing and interpreting test scores across the country if students are not being taught the same content, the scores will vary and standards may not be met. When academic standards vary from state to state, objectives and topics may be over covered or even missed. Issues that arise are states with higher-performing education systems may need to pull back or low-performing systems may feel overwhelmed. National standards help prevent standards from being all over the place, vague, or have too many. Factors of culture, language, economic status, and education gaps should be considered when determining how student achievement affects
