What particularly do standardize tests test? I know most of us here throughout all our lives have taken a standardized test at least once or twice. These types of test were designed to test our intelligence, measure students learning and also holding teachers responsible for the school's success or failure. But the use of standardized tests is not improving education in America. These standardized tests may think that they are a good way of the students learning ability, but they are not. The use of standardized tests does not improve education in America because it causes severe stress in younger students, it has not improved students achievements and testing takes away children childhoods. Cizek that testing causes "gripping anxiety in even the brightest students, and makes young children vomit, or cry, or both" (Cizek, Gregory 2001). Because of how much pressure is on the individual to do well on these tests, they face stress much greater than they ever should at that age. According to author Yong Zhao, a Chinese term used in China to describe school, "Goafen Dineng" which means bad at everything else but good at tests (Gray, Peter 2015). Students most of their time now focusing on tests and studying they have small opportunities to be imaginative, obtain their own dreams, and develop physical and communication skills. Skills such as being happy, creative and productive are learned through children expressing their emotions by playing and being themselves.
