Did you know an average student spends about 2.3% of their classroom time taking tests? A recent study showed that most students spend seventeen hours or more every week studying for these tests that occur frequently. If we do not do something to eliminate these tests then we will end up taking more of them in the future. They are causing enough troubles for teachers and students as it is, and we do not need to let this testing continue.

First of all, standardized test cause too much stress on students and teachers. Students have a hard time understanding the instructions, and they have teachers pushing them throughout the test. For instance, studies show that, “A major factor is the actual method by which they are administered. They are rigidly timed, the instructions are complicated, and the rules are inflexible,” ( Donna L. Clovis.) Students now a days are pushed extremely hard …show more content…

A lot of kids get nervous and fail tests even though they really do know the information. So there is no accurate way to test these kids. According to Sarason, “Because tests in general tend to be an evaluation for students given by authority, the kids with test anxiety tend to not do as well on every test they are given,” ( Megan Brideau.) If they get scared, then they will forget all the information they have studied. Therefore, testing is not the best way to calculate what they know. Also, it has been said that people with low grades do not do good in college. But a recent study showed that this claim was incorrect. Lynn O' Shaughnessy says, “Research that’s being described as a landmark study was released today that shows that high school students with strong grades and lower standardized ACT and SAT scores do as well in college as those who perform better on the standardized tests.” So this means that even though some people fail their test and aren't good test takers, doesn't mean that they are not going to succeed in
