The recent years have witnessed an increasing public concern regarding the potential harm caused by some of the prominent research studies, such as the Stanford Prison study and the Immunization study. Both these studies have sparked public criticism, owing to the potential harm they caused in the process. In this assignment, we will look into the possible harms caused by these studies and some potential solutions that could have been implemented by the scientists, media and the public to either avoid or repair the damage.

The Stanford Prison Study “one of the most notorious experiments in the study of human psychology” ( Leithead. A, 2011). Created a prison-like environment and randomly assigned students to the role of guards and prisoners, as part of a simulated prison experience. The participants reported long-lasting psychological distress following the experiment and the controversy of ethical issues and violations resulted in the premature termination of the experiment.

For the Stanford Prison Study, it would have been ideal if stricter rules and guidelines were in place that clearly mentioned the roles of participants in such experiments, including appropriate behavior guidelines. This could have ensured that such experiments don’t go beyond their intended boundaries and that the rights of the participants are well respected. For the Immunization Study, stringent rules should have been in place that require more detailed assessment of the potential risks associated with such experiments, prior to the actual conduct of such research. Furthermore, proper medical attention and facilities should have been provided to the exposed population to ensure their
