Holes is a story about a boy named Stanley Yelnats whose family is cursed with bad luck because of his great-great-grandfather. Stanley’s bad luck is what gets him placed at a detention center for a crime he did not commit. However, at the detention center he is forced to dig holes every day as punishment. Stanley begins to question why he is forced to dig holes, and soon realizes that the warden must be looking for something. Stanley becomes friends with a boy named Zero and they both try to escape camp, and break they end up breaking the Yelnats curse. Stanley and Zero must return to camp and they work to try to stop the warden and save the other campers from this punishment. Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas is about Henry and his big dog Mudge, and their trip to Henry’s great grandpas nursing home. At the nursing home Henry gives the grandpas gifts, and then goes exploring. While Henry and Mudge are exploring they find a pond and go and get Henry’s dad so that they can go swimming. When they get Henry’s dad all of the great grandpas want to go swimming as well. They all go to the pond and swim and sit in the sun. Henshaw is a story about a boy named Leigh and it is written through Leigh’s journals and his letters to his favorite author Mr. Henshaw. Leight Botts is a sixth grader whose parents recently divorced and he moves to a new town. Leigh expresses his feelings through writing about all of the issues he faces including divorce, anger, loneliness, and a lunchbox thief. Leigh writes almost every day, he writes to Mr. Henshaw who sometimes responds, but is normally not very friendly when he does so. Leigh also starts to write in a journal, which is advice from Mr. Henshaw. Leigh writes because he wants to be an author someday, and because his mom does not have money to fix the T.V.. In the end, Leigh begins to fix his problems, confront his emotions, and starts to become happy once
