George Lucas, in May 1977, directed and released an unknown movie, Star Wars A New Hope. It had strange characters, who lived in outer space and traveled to strange unknown planets. Many movie critics laughed at this movie, and wrote that this would be the biggest movie flop ever. Lucas used new technology and movie making techniques to produce one of the highest grossing films in the United States. For many reasons, this strange little movie created a cult of movie goers that continued to follow this story for now more than 40 years. On the surface, the movie is just plain "cool," but it also has many lessons about good vs. evil and some of the same struggles in life that we live today. The movie had many characters to tell its story: Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, C3PO, and the infamous Darth Vader. These characters can still be found in stores for kids and adults to buy. People still buy Star Wars movies, games that are based off the Star Wars movie, Star Wars video games, and toys that resemble these characters.
