Old Republic vs. New Republic Many people may not realize, but the Star Wars universe is much larger than they think. There many books and games with many stories that are not told in the movies. These stories are spread out along the Star Wars timeline that dates from 13 billion years Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) to 139 years After the Battle of Yavin (ABY). There are two main time periods that divide the Star Wars timeline: the Old Republic and the New Republic. The Old Republic and the New Republic are much different than you think. The government, factions, and planets are similar and different in many aspects. The Old Republic, or the True Republic, was founded 25, 053 BBY. This government was one that was based on ideals. There are many similarities and many differences between the two timelines of the Jedi. Unlike the movies and the New Republic, the Jedi during the Old Republic were warriors that donned heavy battle armor and fought in wars against thousands of Sith. They entered battle calmly, at their own will, and they would fight a battle until it was won. The Jedi existed as guardians and the police of society they could hold positions of power in government, many were also scholars, diplomats, strategists, and scientists. They were devoted to protecting the Republic from all threats, and they always were in pursuit of knowledge of Ashla (light side) and forbid knowledge of Boga (Dark Side). They were forbidden to have relations with another and should always suppress their emotions. They had training academies on different planets like Tython, Ossus, Dantooine, Katarr, and Telos. You might ask how a planet could change, other than the age it is. There are hundreds of planets in the Star Wars galaxy and they have all had their share of changes that have lead them to the way they are. Balmorra, Alderaan, and Rishi are all planets that have been touched by war and conflict that have changed them. Dantooine, Korriban, and Dromund Kaas are planets that have been touched by Boga and it is forever strong in it. Coruscant and Alderaan are planets of political influence. In the New Republic the planets most planets are the same however some no longer exist or are changed. Alderaan was blown up by the new Sith Empire. Dantooine remains a testament to the Sith strength and Korriban was renamed Moraband. As one can see there are many things similar between the Old Republic and the New Republic. The System of government remains the same, but those who hold power and the positions themselves are different. The Jedi order remains the same as it always has been, but the attachments and rules are relaxed more during the New Republic. The Sith still studied Boga and battled the users of Ashla, but the numbers were different during each time period. Lastly the planets and their status changed throughout time. The Star Wars universe has a lot of differences and similarities, but the journey you go on is worth
