There are many similarities and many differences between the two timelines of the Jedi. Unlike the movies and the New Republic, the Jedi during the Old Republic were warriors that donned heavy battle armor and fought in wars against thousands of Sith. They entered battle calmly, at their own will, and they would fight a battle until it was won. The Jedi existed as guardians and the police of society they could hold positions of power in government, many were also scholars, diplomats, strategists, and scientists. They were devoted to protecting the Republic from all threats, and they always were in pursuit of knowledge of Ashla (light side) and forbid knowledge of Boga (Dark Side). They were forbidden to have relations with another and should always suppress their emotions. They had training academies on different planets like Tython, Ossus, Dantooine, Katarr, and Telos. There are hundreds of planets in the Star Wars galaxy and they have all had their share of changes that have lead them to the way they are. Balmorra, Alderaan, and Rishi are all planets that have been touched by war and conflict that have changed them. The System of government remains the same, but those who hold power and the positions themselves are different. The Jedi order remains the same as it always has been, but the attachments and rules are relaxed more during the New Republic. The Sith still studied Boga and battled the users of Ashla, but the numbers were different during each time period. Lastly the planets and their status changed throughout time.
