Siddhartha vs. Star Wars
Everyone goes on a different journey in the course of their life and everyone's journey has a different outcome. In almost every journey, there is a hero. This person is the one who goes into the world and achieves something great. They normally do this great deed on behalf of some sort of group. There are two main heroes within Star Wars by George Lucas and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. These heroes are Luke Skywalker and Siddhartha. Although there are some similarities between the heroes within Star Wars by George Lucas and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, there are also many more differences. Siddhartha and Luke Skywalker are both have a calling in some way to their journey that leads them to becoming heroes. Siddhartha had a spiritual calling. He feels the calling in him to be a Samana. In Siddhartha, Siddhartha is helped by Vasudeva, a ferryman. Vasudeva guides Siddhartha spiritually to help him reach enlightenment. He teaches him about the river and helps him to gain wisdom. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is guided by Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi Wan helps him physically by giving him a light saber and by being the voice inside Luke's head to help him destroy the Death Star. They differ because Siddhartha is guided spiritually, while Luke Skywalker is guided physically. Another mentor to Siddhartha is his father. His father allows Siddhartha into the world to do as he pleases, learn from his mistakes. and gain his own experiences. Another mentor to Luke is his uncle. His uncle doesn't want him to live as his father did. He wants Luke to stay with him and Luke's aunt to assist with the harvest. He limits his ability to do as he wishes. These two differ because Siddhartha's father wants him to go into the world and have freedom, but Luke's uncle wishes for Luke to stay with him and help him
