Before starting Loyal Supply Co. you worked at some of Boston’s top branding and experience agencies. Can you talk a little bit about your career path? I studied advertising and public relations at Michigan State University and got my first agency job at Arnold Worldwide in Boston. I worked on the Brand Experience team, planning and producing events, product launches, tours, etc. From there I went to a local startup called LevelUp where I worked with clients to create social, location-based engagements for their customers. After a few years, I decided to make the jump back to agency life at another event planning agency, Jack Morton Worldwide. During my time there, I started my letterpress company. After I walk my puppy Huckleberry, I try to get to the store a few hours before open. This gives me some quiet time to work on e-mails, scheduling, planning, and collaborating. I spend time each day making sure the store is stocked and noting what needs reordering. I’m always looking for new products to bring to Loyal and constantly have conversations happening with new makers to feature. Customers are in and out of the store throughout the day so I spend time chatting with them and telling them the stories of the products in the store and talking about the letterpress and design services we offer. How often are you designing new products for the shop and what influences a new design? As often as possible! When the store opened last year there were two Loyal products, the Loyal Leash and our Key Holster. Since then we’ve added some local Somerville branded items including pennants and pins, and we’ve collaborated with talented designers to make tote bags and our latest product the Prismatone Pin Pack. We find inspiration everywhere, and are most often influenced by the materials we work with. Talk to us about your first month up and running as a shop.
