One of the reasons Penn. State University is a primary candidate for my future studies is the diversity of the student populace, as I believe the number of unique cultures and peoples represented throughout the institution will be beneficial to myself and my peers. For most of my life, I have lived as the son of a member of the United States Air Force, and the diversity in the places that I have lived and the diversity of the people who lived there have deeply shaped my life. People of different religions, different races, and different heritages have lived around me throughout most of my life, and their ideas and ideals have influenced me. However, I realized how much I had taken cultural diversity for granted once my father retired from the Air Force and moved to our current location. The diversity offered at P.S.U. will only help me, along with other students, to develop advanced, unique ideas and will help us to learn and discover how to think differently and effectively, whether in our own careers or in everyday life. Throughout high school, I have worked to be involved both as a team-member and a leader. The skills I have learned throughout many of these clubs and organizations should allow me to effectively work with my peers on research and class assignments. For example; I have worked in our local combat robotics team for three years now as a designer and as Secretary. This work includes working with my own team and another team, each consisting of about ten students. This year, I will be leading our team as team captain, as well as continuing to mentor the other, younger team. In addition, my work over the past three years has let me grow from a staff writer to a senior editor on our school’s newspaper editorial board. Through newspaper, I am able to work with
