One option for me to pursue after receiving my bachelor’s degree would to go to graduate school to earn a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. This is usually a two year program that involves a combination of course work and clinical hours. Receiving a Master’s degree would allow me to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist while only receiving the Bachelor’s degree would only allow me to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. I can complete my graduate program at a variety of locations one option being at the school I am currently at since they have a graduate program. To go to graduate school I will need to take the GRE exam, and preferable get a decent score on it.
Another option would be to become a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, which would allow me to get a job as soon as I graduate with my Bachelor’s degree. SLPAs are not allowed to practice on patients by themselves, they need to be supervised by a certified SLP. There is a pretty big need for SLPAs especially in school settings, about 42% of schools that have at least one SLPA. SLPAs are allow to do the actual therapy activities but they aren’t allowed to plan the activities or determine what services their clients are in need of.

As a SLP in a school setting I would be working alongside teachers in order to help students become more successful in classroom activities, social interactions, literacy, and learning. SLPs in schools work with students who have language, voice, fluency, articulation, and swallowing disorders. The point of having SLPs in schools are to help students be more successful in school because without communication skills it will lead to other learning
