The most influential lesson that I have learned during my college experience is to not let my circumstances dictate my destiny. Instead, we must use our circumstances – both good and bad – as a method to build character. It was a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated who taught me this lesson that not only changed my insight, but also changed my life. From our very first encounter, I knew that I too wanted to be a woman that possessed these strong moral values and talents. One of my ultimate goals is to educate and motivate young women while making meaningful contributions to their lives; just like the women of this illustrious sorority has done for me. In addition, I believe the purpose is designed to generate a strong sisterhood of women that can depend on each other and vitalize each other’s success. Similarly, overcoming personal challenges fueled my desire to help other individuals who may not be able to see the light in their own situations. Currently, I am a mentor for the Opportunity Scholars Program and the Multicultural Assistance Peer Program. Both programs allow me to develop and implement action plans that have an abundance of tools and resources for students who may come from low-income backgrounds or may be first-generation college students, just as I was. Mentorship provides the grounds to help these individuals in various aspects of their lives. As the Vice-President of A.Bevy Collegiate Group at USC; I have developed an advanced set of leadership skills. In this position, I have had to plan, facilitate and oversee campus wide operations; while promoting the development of others students passion and purpose. In my role as the secretary of the National Association of Black Accountants-USC chapter, I have developed sharp organizational and correspondence skills to ensure that African American students on campus have access to resources within our business network. These roles have equipped me with several skill sets that make me confident in my ability to contribute to this thriving
