Doing Your Share for Your Diploma
(A description on personal preference of community service) Helping and serving your community is often a personal choice and has a great deal to serve about character. Community service also does a great deal in building someone’s character in a beneficial way. Due to this, many high schools have started incorporating community service into their graduation requirements. However, these requirements come only in hours, not specificity of the service done. The choice of service is up to the student, which can still speak volumes about the student and help them grow as a person. I enjoy being around the kids of my community because I always think about how I was once in their shoes and I benefitted greatly from the older kids visiting with me. Whether it be to discuss the dangers of drugs and alcohol, or just to spend time with them at lunch, listening to the kids talk and giving them advice is really fulfilling to me. I think that I have the ability to help a kid think differently, or learn in a way that might help them live a more successful life. Drug and alcohol education is a great way to do this service, and I have also done this in the past. I think it is gravely important that these kids hear the message early and often from people who are more relatable than teachers. Understanding what is in the future and knowing how to handle it can help a kid avoid a deadly path. It is also vital to know that people are capable of saying no to these activities, and I like to be living proof to them. The kids of the community should have teenagers like me available as a research to prepare for the future and it is truly satisfying
