The summer before junior year, my friend asked me to go to the Georgetown Sports Industry Management Institute summer program with him. I agreed, mainly because of my love for sports. After hearing talks from agents, marketing directors and other members of the business world, I was hooked: I decided to pursue a degree in business. Not only did the combination of working with people and numbers greatly appeal to me, but the idea of a degree that would give me opportunities to explore and experience different people and places fascinated me.
At Georgetown, I will be able to gain a greater understanding and perspective of the surrounding community. A strong connection with the world is not only beneficial for business, but for human development as well. As technology and intelligence advances, it is essential that those who have the potential to greatly impact the world, such as college students, are able to learn and experience a global education. Students that acknowledge and understand different perspectives from different locations and thoughts are able to advance their community in a beneficial, sustainable manner. Also, Washington DC provides numerous internships, jobs and resources. With similar ideals that I began developing in my Jesuit high school, I will be able to treat business partners, employers, coworkers with respect and equality. In addition, I will learn to always strive for the magis, or more, in my work. These characteristics will also translate outside of school and work life. The McDonough School of Business encourages growth beyond intellectual improvement. I will become a better community member, family member and person through the principles that are embedded in a Jesuit
