The power and ability to think critically is a skill which is vital and essential for any student aiming to make a difference in today’s world- yet why is this trait so rare? Perhaps, one reason is because having the ability to think critically is what separates innovators from followers. With that being said, critical thinking is a skill not easily taught nor understood. However, it is my personal goal to further my understanding of critical thinking while in college, so that I will have the ability to help in solving the worlds most critical problems. As a student in Honors College I will strive to achieve my goal by surrounding myself with diversified and like minded individuals, forming a deeper and more unbiased perception of the world, and exposing myself to a broader base of information. In such a prestigious program such as the Honors College of Auburn University, I know that I will not stand alone as a student who strives to expand upon my critical thinking skills. By surrounding myself with passionate students with similar interests in the Honors College, I know that I will have the motivation and encouragement to succeed. Rather than simply memorizing information, I believe Honors College will challenge my ability to imagine and generate innovative solutions. Consequently, I will improve my critical thinking skills. Also, I will develop my confidence to work in the real world and demonstrate my abilities as a problem solver.
