Statement of Purpose “One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. But no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.”–Elbert Hubbard The quote above itself depicts the logical reason for my decision to take up Mechanical Engineering. In my childhood I was fortunate to have begun with a good early education and as I grew up, my interest and curiosity towards the physical nature of the universe soon developed into an obsession. Science unraveled many mysteries for me; math challenged me and gave me joy. My fascination towards Applied Science drove me to opt for mathematics, physics, and chemistry for my higher secondary education, which have enhanced my analytical and quantitative skills. Thus, taking up Mechanical Engineering was a direct consequence of my convictions. During my undergraduate career, I have gained knowledge and experience in the classroom, in the laboratory, and in practice. In addition to this, in the past two years, my working experience taught me how to use computation resources for solving critical problems in Applied Mechanics and Dynamics. Hence I have developed a significant interest in Computer aided Design and Engineering. It was one such paradigm that honed my conviction to explore research based graduate program where I can get more exposure on this topic. …show more content…

Throughout my undergraduate study, I have endeavored to gain a broad perspective of Mechanical Engineering. I particularly enjoyed courses like Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design, Theory of Machines, Dynamics of Machinery, Computer Oriented Numerical Methods and CAD/CAM & Automation. During my undergraduate studies, I started with fundamental modules in Thermal Science, Applied Mechanics, Fluid Science and Material Science in my junior years and later extended my knowledge about more advanced topics such as Mechanical System Design, Dynamics of Machinery, and Industrial Fluid Power during my senior years. I also worked on several mini projects including Design of Screw Jack, Design of Clutch Assembly, and Design and optimization of Multispeed Gearbox of a Ship. These design projects acted as a catalyst to boost my confidence and thus developed an affinity towards design and development engineering as a consequence of which I opted for Product Design and Development, and Reliability Engineering as two of my elective majors in final year of undergraduate studies. Moreover, I have also had an introduction to specialized areas like Finite Element Techniques and Operations
