Organization Description The organization that I have chosen is Read- to- Achieve. Read to Achieve is a program created in legislation approved by the North Carolina general assembly in July 2012. The program has components for improving reading proficiencies or students in kindergarten through third grade (ncpublicschools.org). This is a reading program that operates during the summer for three weeks. This program is designed to help improve reading levels of the students who finished the school year below their reading level or for the third graders who needed to take the end of grade test. This program has a designed three-week lesson plan that allows the teacher to move through different reading techniques that will help the students improve their reading. This need is next because teachers who communicate will pick up and learn different things from other teachers. For example, if a teacher has a low performing student in their class and they have no idea how to help them, they could refer to the LMS and ask others for help or ideas that would help them get across to the student. It could also help teachers who might not understand a lesson and just need more guidance, they could reach out to a fellow colleague for advice or help. Student engagement is an important need because the LMS would help the students to gain confidence and a better understanding of what’s being taught. Allowing the students to gain confidence in their studies would increase their engagement in class. For example, if the teacher is working on long and short vowel sounds and starting off about 50 percent of the class isn’t really getting it. The teacher would add the Lexia lessons on the LMS that covers the long and short vowel sounds and have the students complete them to help reinforce what they covered in
