I have been thinking a lot about what I want to do when I graduate high school. I believe I have come to a final decision. I am going to be a heavy diesel technician. This line of work interests me because I have been in a diesel truck since I was around three years old. My dad is a truck driver and he used to own a few trucks that I had to help work on, and I just fell completely in love.
In his essay about being a bilingual student, Richard Rodriguez makes the claim that a family’s language is intimate. As an intimate language it is unfit for use in school or in public and that attempts to do so demonstrate a misunderstanding of the purposes of school and the intimacy of a family’s language. To create this argument, Rodriguez recounts numerous parts of his childhood to serve as examples to support his claim. Rodriguez uses some of his examples to state that English is a public language. In one segment of his essay, he explicitly says that English is the language of society when he says “for it is now the sound that of my society,” (Rodriguez 12) his society being Americans.
I know that this event occurred 9 years ago, but I had to overcome some blinding obstacles and figure out what I was passionate about in life. Going to college straight out of high school was to chase a baseball dream and not an educational one. I wasted three years of a chance at an education by only worrying about baseball. After that, I chased money in the oilfield for four years and was eventually laid off. Being laid off was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
In his article, Dan Carsen discusses the challenges with bilingual education in the Southern United States. Although he recognizes the obstacles present in this system, Carsen does argue for bilingual education. By appealing to ethos, pathos, and logos, Carsen properly describes the difficulties and importance in implementing bilingual education in the South. Carsen successfully appeals to ethos by conducting several personal interviews to capture real-world experiences. The first interview mentioned in the article is with Angelina Baltazar, a bilingual student at Tarrant High School.
My academic goals after I graduated from UC Irvine is to achieve a higher education beyond a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. I have set going to dental school as a primary goal after graduating. My goal is to eventually obtain a D.D.S (Doctor of Dentist Surgery) degree. Working towards a specialty is an interest that I am very curious in pursuing; however, as of now becoming a general dentist is my main goal. Through the adversities that accompany senior year, I have worked hard to propel my academic career, develop my leadership, and to have a successful soccer season. I recently had a conversation with the instructional superintendent, Anthony Smith, and he equated high school with a 400 meter race. As the race concludes and fatigue attacks, I continue to sprint towards my objectives. In the first semester, I applied to seven universities and I was admitted to all of them. I decided and committed to Colorado State University.
There are many events that led to this day and I could not imagine how my life would have turned out. At a young age, I was embodied with the notion that you need college to be successful in life, so I worked hard in school and finally it had paid off. My last semester
I moved to the United States two years ago and I started going to school here. Before that time, I spent all my time in Senegalese schools. I discovered after I came here that these two school systems are very different. When I first come to US school, I thought I will have lots of troubles. It was difficult, but I had to learn quickly.
Armeen Sayani, a 2018 Loyola alumna, has continued to impact Loyola and its surrounding communities long past her graduation. Sayani is pursuing her Master’s degree through Loyola School of Education’s Language, Culture, and Curriculum program while working as a teacher at Chicagoland’s Old Orchard Junior High School. When I first graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a pilot to fly airplanes, so I signed up to attend classes at Kishwaukee College located in DeKalb. ECC helped me sing up for classes at an in district rate because Elgin could not offer the courses that I wanted to me. During the first semester I found out that I did not want to become a pilot anymore and that I would be happier if I changed and focused on computer science. The advisors helped me schedule classes back at ECC for computer science then next semester. During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for.
Public schools As noted above, the federal government has provided a form of bilingual education for Indigenous students since the creation of the DGEI in 1978. While such programs are now known as “intercultural bilingual” education, they have only been able to provide students with a weak form of intercultural capacity at best and often have the opposite effect of alienating students by oppressing their native language and culture. This reinforcing of the hegemony of the Spanish language and European-descent, urban-centric culture is apparent in the non-participation of the local community, the way that teachers are selected and trained, and the use of language in the classroom. One of the most salient characteristics of the public education system is its highly centralized nature.
The world has evolved greatly. With globalization, the world has become a planetary village. This planetary village rely on human beings with a certain level of education. A good education has become an indispensable key However, for a good education, an excellent system of education is needed.
Having dreams and goals are part of being human, and the biggest way to be able to accomplish those dreams has to do with getting an education. Many people feel that they will be able to receive a better education in the U.S. but when someone moves to the U.S. from another country, not being fluent in English can be a huge barrier to being able to accomplish what one wants, and being successful in the educational system. Therefore, the people who are incharge of the education system have set specific standards in order to teach students who are learning the English language. Those initiatives work in order to promote the development of the English Language and standards that keep up with the subjects that the other students who speak English
Instead I took a job as in a fast-foods place where I had no future. Then I went to work in a big company just doing simple office work. When it came time for promotions I couldn’t pass the tests they gave. That was not all. As a result of quitting school later.
Introduction Bilingual education is an academic approach followed by some instructors, which is using the native language for new English learners for instructions. Within the international context, bilingual education has become a necessity due to the high number of immigration, colonialism and the great number of local languages (Yushau, B. & Bokhari, M.A, 2005). This approach in instruction has reflected back positively or negatively in many dimensions such as social, psychological, and pedagogical. However, bilingual education instruction is an effective way of teaching English as a second language, in case of well implementation it can be seen as an educational advantage. This literature covers a wide variety of opinions that revolves around a topic that researchers find it controversial, this review will highlight the major question and findings which emerge in order throughout the literature.
