Informative text is written in a particular way that allows the reader to find important information easily, leading to the understanding of the overall topic. Authors provide headers over certain sections, bold print on key points, and visual images with captions to engage the reader. This allows the reader to create mental pictures, which in turn brings the text to life and engages the reader’s imagination. The Board of Studies, NSW English K-10 Syllabus (2012), States that the primary purpose of informative text is to provide information through explanation, description, argument, analysis, ordering and presentation of evidence and procedures. The structure of informative text is generally organized in a way that provides, who, where and when. The use of chronological order, conjunctions and time connectives to sequence the events in the text. The grammatical features of informative text uses, nouns and pronouns to identify things, adjectives to describe the nouns. The uses of word associations to create links, that makes the text cohesive.
