Final Essay In the stories “Dracula” and “Station Eleven” both authors use great detail to create sensory details to create and expose different moods to the reader. In the story Dracula the author in paragraph 1 states, “It grew colder and colder still, and fine powdery snow began to fall, so that soon we and all around us were covered with a white blanket.” This quote is a great example of creating mood from sensory details. The author explains a simple situation with great detail to make sensory details. The words “powdery” and “white blanket” are words that are not very common to find in sentences like this. These words are the words that create the mood. When me as the reader reads this sentence I can imagine the snow as a soft white blanket, but still being cold unlike what a blanket is supposed to be. …show more content…

In paragraph 2 the author says “The Symphony shot two deer for dinner later, pried the arrows from their ribs, and strung them over the hoods of the first two caravans.” Just like the other example this sentence explains a simple situation with great detail and words that are not that familiar. The word “pried”, yes we have probably all heard this word before but it is not really familiar, and it is not really used much. But it helps us imagine the situation even if it is kind of gruesome. The mood may be uncomfortable but that is definitely what the author is going for. It's like when an actor/actress plays a character, and you hate that character.
