There are many places I could have visited during Labor Day weekend; however I chose to go to the Statue of Liberty because it symbolizes hope and opportunity for the world. In addition, I could actually see the beauty of Lady Liberty; learn about the rich history behind the statue, and its symbolism to the world.
I have been thinking about visiting the Statue of Liberty for a long time. The Statue of Liberty created a contemplative environment in which I could personally imagine and experience history for myself. In the 19th century, immigrants traveled for weeks on board ships, often in extremely tight, unsanitary, and difficult conditions, to seek greater economic opportunity and religious freedom. Immigrants view this monument as freedom from tyranny, financial hardship, and suffering. Throughout the 19th century, unstable economies, political instability, vast unemployment, and religious persecution prompted many Europeans to leave their homelands to take their chances at a better life in America. These immigrants came from countries all over the world to the United States in order to gain religious freedom.
