Status Quo Taking into account that world hunger is an ongoing conflict, large corporations have already established programs that are helping to relieve hunger. However, hunger remains at a status quo, and overpopulation may be an associating factor.
Current World Organizations that Have Taken Action Against Hunger Drastic progress has been made in reducing hunger throughout the decades; Organizations such as the United Nations World Food Programme, UNICEF, CARE, the Mercy Corps, and the Action Against Hunger program have formed to work in conjunction in ending world hunger. The World Food Programme (2017) states, “There are 216 million fewer hungry people than in 1990-92, despite a 1.9 billion increase in the world’s population” (p. 1). Several studies have predicted that the world’s population, which is currently at seven billion people, will rise by two to three billion by the year 2050 (Foley, 2011). There is a huge rift between the rate at which the planet’s limited natural resources are being drained and the rate at which food is grown and produced. Foley (2011) mentions, “Society already uses about 37% of the Earth’s land surface, not counting Greenland or Antarctica, for farms or pastures. Agriculture is by far the biggest human use of land on the planet” (p. 1). A growing world population continues to raise the demand for food, which means that more natural resources are required. The issue conflicts with the preservation of environmental habitats that are home to millions of wildlife animals, especially for endangered species.
