The lonely pioneer clawed his way up to the mountain; but for a mountain to be a revolution of industry, for this pioneer isn’t but a grand achievement, marked for ages to come. Upon this mountain, the industrial revolution, there were many inventions and creations that were technological advancements, but one shines above: the steam engine. Many of the inventions during the industrial revolution were good for one specific thing, like the Spinning Jenny, the cotton gin, and the spinning mule. Steam power revolutionized production by making it cheaper, and quicker to produce materials and things. The creation of the steam engine marked a new age for humanity: the wheel of tomorrow. Not only has it changed the field of production, but also the field of travel. The steam engine made transportation readily available wherever there was a railroad or canal. “The use of steam engines on railroads proved extraordinary in the fact that now you could have large amounts of goods and raw materials delivered to cities and factories alike. Trains could deliver these to places far away at a fraction of the cost of traveling by wagon,” (Lumen Learning). Not only did it make it easy to transport materials, but it also made it easy and cheap to transport people across the country. It also allows easy travel across the ocean with the advent of the steam boat. The steam engine changed the game, where now instead of taking oxen and carriage across the country, most likely dying along the way, the steam engine gave us the ability to swiftly and safely travel across the country.
