It is human nature to label everything; from the jars in the cupboard to the gym rat people see running miles down the street every morning. But is she a gym rat or does she just like to run in the mornings? This is what society does on a day to day basis; label and stereotype others as they strive to hold up their own weight in this world. Stereotypes are often used to categorize a group of people based on a fixed opinion. There are many categories of stereotypes such as races, genders, cultures, religion, language and much more. It is tragic to think that there are individuals who truly believe the misconceptions of bodybuilders being naive. According to Psychology today, a neuroscientist at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Justin Rhodes, reveals “BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) helps support and strengthen synapses in the brain. We find exercise greatly activates the hippocampus and grows more neurons there”. This reveals how exercising not only benefits healthy brain growth but improves memory, emotions and the nervous system. By keeping a consistent workout schedule individuals can become more organized and have an escape from reality to work on themselves to improve their figure and state of mind. According to BBC, “exercise boosts the blood (and therefore oxygen) supply to the brain – which helps give it the energy to think. It might also promote the growth of neurons and perhaps encourage the release of certain neurotransmitters and growth hormones that are crucial to the brain’s overall health.
