Green Book is a movie about an Italian driver and a black pianist placed in the southern 1960s where there was animosity between white people and black people. These two originally seem to have different interests and don’t get along well originally. The Black pianist is named Don Shirly and the white Italian driver is named Tony Lip. Don Shirly is a quiet formal pianist who is very neat and put together while Tony Lip is a fun outgoing guy.
S. E. Hinton started to write her book The Outsiders when she was 14 years old in the 1960s. The novel takes place in Tulsa Oklahoma during the 1960s and focus around a teenager named Ponyboy Curtis. Tulsa is split in two parts where on one side the rich people live and the call them the Socs. On the other side all the poor people live and they are called the Greasers. Pony boy is a greaser and he lives with his two older brothers Sodapop and Darry because his parents died.
There has been a lot of quarrels over the years about how children’s picture books are embracing traditions and presenting gender stereotypes. In an article I found, author Narahara May of “Gender Stereotypes in Children’s Picture Books,” discusses two major problems. One being that gender stereotypes and sexism has an emotional impact on the development of children’s identity and development. Secondly, she explains about how books in the last decade have portrayed gender negatively. Furthermore, I will be discussing May’s ideas further in depth by examining the portrayals of gender stereotypes found in the popular “Berenstain Bears” picture books.
In The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton writes about two gangs against each other in a duel. Throughout the novel, Hinton explores the idea that two opposites that have been in a social war can join together to help people. She makes this idea clear by or through Darry, Johnny, and Cherry. Finally, the reader understands the importance of fighting stereotypes.
One of the most common stereotypes about men is basically vice versa. Men are taught as young to be tough and like to play with trucks and dinosaurs. They are not expected to do house work and take care of the children. It has always been presumed that men are okay with that and it is just not true. Each person is unique in their own way.
Stereotypes. They are all around us. They control how we look, how we act, and what we do. Society teaches us to be a certain person, and throw away the truth of who we are. If you are a woman you must wear dresses, have a lower level job with less pay than men, be skinny, wear makeup, and clean up the house.
Life is like outer space, unknown and always changing. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee writes about the segregation, hate, and prejudice in a town called Maycomb. Tom Robinson, a black man, is accused of rape and doesn’t know what to expect. His attorney, Atticus Finch, an experienced, knowledgeable, and kind man, does his absolute best to defend him. However, the jury consists of all white males, most being racist and narrow-minded about the situation.
In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, I noticed a lot of stereotyping. The characters stereotyped one another in multiple ways. The way they stereotyped one another shows how different each individual thinks about one another. Most of these stereotypes are shown negatively. This novel is shown from a child's point of view to show the difference in thinking between a child and an adult.

Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.

In the more recent picture books that are published under the category of children’s literature, there are fewer books that outright shows stereotype concerning gender roles. However, there is a section of stories that are loved to this day that does show these things. Those are fairy/folk tales that has been present for generations. One example is an old Japanese folktale called “The Crane Wife,” or in my language, “Tsuru no Ongaesi” (literally translates to “The Crane’s Gratitude”). While this famous tale can have several different interpretations, such as “do not let your curiosity get the better of you,” I feel like it also shows how a wife should be; stay in the house, and be good to the man of the house and bow to his will.

Growing up as a child in the early 21st century I, had Power Puff Girls, Dora, Winx and Angelina Ballerina forced down my throat. That is until my brother came along and Astro Boy, car racing, video games, and Teenage Mutant Ninja came to my attention. Throughout the years, gender stereotypes against females and males have been lessening. These are still present in the modern social age; this has happened through social media, children books, ads, and movies.
Throughout history, many gender roles have been placed upon women. Women are told to be wives and mothers and to take care of the home. Women are shown to be nurturing and are told to be “good” girls or else they would be punished. All of these, plus others like, being inferior, passive, less intelligent, emotional, weak, and maintaining a lower social position are all stereotypes. Children’s literature is the body of written works and accompanying illustrations produced inorder to entertain and instruct young people. The fundamental goal of children’s literature is to instruct and entertain. It covers various diverse themes such as mystery, fantasy and war. Some themes are discernible to the young reader, whereas some are more likely to be understood by an adult reader. This means that children’s literature is accessible to all ages, with different pieces of information within the text becoming clearer each time it is read.
