Hey! I'm a skeptic! Let us discuss this book I recently finished reading, “Dear Martin,” by Nic Stone. It is like embarking on a journey alongside Justyce McAllister, a man navigating his identity and place in the world. However, it is not all sunshine and rainbows. The book delves into themes like stereotypes and inequality, offering a gripping narrative from beginning to end. Speaking of stereotypes, do you know how people often label others based on factors like race or gender? Well in "Dear Martin" Justyce confronts these stereotypes head on. Despite being intelligent, kindhearted and striving to do what is right, he is unfairly branded as another " Black man." It seems like Justyce cannot shake off those stereotypes, no matter what he does. “Dear Martin” does not just leave us feeling down. It challenges stereotypes head on. Characters like Manny and Sarah Jane break free from society’s labels. Remind us that people are more than the categories we put them in. It shows that everyone has their story to share. Now let us talk about inequality. It is this issue that often gets ignored. “Dear Martin” brings it to the forefront. Justice encounters inequality at school in the system. It is not right that he faces discrimination based on his race. The book does not sugarcoat anything. It paints a picture of how messed up things can get when inequality rears its head. Like when the police unfairly target Justyce just because he’s Black. It is alarming to think this still happens today. Dear Martin" does not shy away from portraying the realities faced by many people. You know, the book also gives us hope. It shows that when things seem unfair, there is always a chance for things to get better. Justice does not let the unfairness of the world get him down. Instead, he fights against it. Stand up for what is right. It is a message that we can all take something
