Introduction
Have you ever seen a person who can do math in their head super-fast? Have you seen a child who can draw or play a musical instrument like a professional? The movie “Little Man Tate” has to do with talented people like these. This movie was directed by Jodie Foster, who was also an actress in the film. It was written by Scott Frank. Little Man Tate was filmed in 1991, which could turn people off, because it is not a modern movie. Let talk a little about what the movie is about.

Stereotypes After learning about people who have Autism, I do not think that this movie portrays it well. There are some behavior that are right, but not all. Like the movie makes it seem like all people with high functioning Autism are child geniuses. Yes, these students have certain interests that they are knowledgeable in. But, to give a seven year old at calculus problem, and can do it in their head no. They might not be able to do it at all, even when given a calculator. The other stereotypes were on like the focusing on an object and not getting figures of speech. After watching the movie, I do not think I viewed him any differently than I did in the beginning. I see a little boy who just happened to be smart. I never see the exceptionality. Although it is very hard to notice that he has something wrong until you look harder. I do not think the movie had an influence on how I would react to a student like this. I think it was a good movie. “Little Man Tate” told a great story that could have been somewhat true. There was a TV show that showed students kind of like Fred, competing to see who was the smartest. “Little Man Tate” also shows the everyday struggles of a mother trying to provide for her child the best way she can, even if it meant sending him to college for the summer. I believe the film is family friendly. It is about a seven year old. The language is suitable for younger audience, although there are a few sense with a curse word. It’s not like kids are not used to hearing a few now and then. I mean you cannot keep them from the language unless you do not take them out. “Little Man Tate” does promote the cause for exceptionalities. It might not portray Autism right, but you can see that Fred is different and you should be accepting to everyone, not saying we are. For a student like Fred, inclusion might not be the best choice. He was not getting challenged enough in a general classroom. He needed the college course load. Although the stress of college is not for a seven year old. They cannot
