Everyone Gets Stereotyped Stereotyping others can lead to problems in the future and can cause people to become upset. When the characters George and Lennie from the book Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, are first introduced its easy to tell George stereotypes Lennie as stupid. Since Lennie is stereotyped as stupid, he causes problems throughout the book. George is also stereotyped, but as protective of Lennie. Throughout the book George tries to help Lennie as much as he can, even if it leads to a bad situation.
All the other workers saw Lennie as a mentally disabled guy and never gave him a chance to see how kind and hardworking he is. While George is at the job interview he describes Lennie as “...‘he’s sure a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull. ’”(pg 22). Throughout the Story Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. Two men, polar opposites, George and Lennie struggle to find jobs and make enough money to hopefully live out their well deserved American Dream. So far, Steinbeck portrays Lennie as an absent minded man. Also, Steinbeck does not fail to show Lennie's dumb but childlike features too. When approaching Lennie, many might feel intimidated due to his lack of manners and huge body.

George is constantly giving Lennie directions that he has to repeat several times to help him remember.
In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, Lennie, Curley’s Wife and George suffer the most. One innocent character that suffers in the story is Lennie Small. He is a person that obviously mentally impaired.
Mental Disabilities in Of Mice and Men In the Steinbeck novel Of Mice and Men the two main characters are a man named George who is a tough hard worker, and his cousin Lennie who has mental defects. Lennie’s mental defectiveness is at most times a problem and a hassle to George because he cares about Lennie and he only wants the best for him in life. Lennie looks up to George because George is the one who usually always get Lennie out of trouble when he does things. One time Lennie thought that a young lady’s red dress was very pretty so he tried to touch it and the girl thought he was trying to hurt her
Lennie is constantly excluded and made fun of because of his disability. People with disabilities are often bullied or taken advantage of. Because of their handicap, they may not be able to understand why they are ostracized or laughed
Mental illness is one of many things that can isolate and damage a person. It can cause them to be ridiculed, it can change the lives of those who surround that person, and it can even lead someone to act against their will. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Lennie Small is a character who, because of his mental disability, portrays many of the qualities mentioned above. Lennie’s life long companion, George, is Lennie’s protector who keeps Lennie from being isolated and lonely. However, there were certain things that Lennie’s mental illness caused that George could not protect him from.
Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.
Lennie is a big character involving this stories theme by still having friends even though is very different from George and all the other workers. Some readers might think that Lennie has a brain injury that causes his forgetfulness and is a mean person who wants to cause havoc. Despite, the readers thinking that Lennie has a brain injury, it is clear that those allegations are false and George only says this to cover up Lennie’s stupidity. Although, some critics may think that Lennie is a mean person always trying to cause havoc, it is obvious that Lennie is a nice man with a small mind who does not know how to control his strength. Lennie is a dynamic character with observations being made about his forgetfulness and kindness.
“The unavoidable truth is, however, that Lennie, be he innocent “natural,” uncontrollable id, or simply a huge child, is above all dangerous.” (Owens) Children are known for having tempers. They have trouble expressing their feelings in words. Lennie is a lot like this and with his enormous strength, it is difficult to control him. Of Mice and Men shows many thematic ideas that relate to the world today even though it is set in the 1930’s.
On of the main characters, Lennie, is retarded and often gets him and George into trouble. In the story, the author gives many clues that allude to the fact that Lennie has a mental illness. Throughout the story, he says and does things that shows the reader of this. The ways Lennie is shown as retarded is through his childish manner, his memory loss, his incapability to control his strength, and his cowardness.
During the time of the Great Depression people did not know about mental disabilities and that is why Lennie was not treated fairly. Lennie got into a lot of trouble at work, which caused for him and George to find different jobs all the time. An example of when Lennie and George had to leave a job because of Lennie’s actions was when they were in Weed and Lennie touched the girl’s dress and would not let go. The only reason why Lennie did that was because he saw something he liked and he did not want to let go and he became scared when she started to scream. People during this time period were unaware of mental disabilities which made it hard for them to get jobs.
