America's views of Muslims because of media bias on 9/11.
Americans stereotyping other Americans just because of their religion should not and cannot continue to be spread with the use of media.. This is a problem that Muslim Americans have struggled with ever since the events that took place on September 11, 2001 when a group of Islamic terrorists hijacked planes to crash into the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. This was an attack that shocked all of America and shortly after the shock people began questioning why this could of happened. When it was released that this terror attacks had been done by a group of Muslims the media started to shift the blame from Extremestist to Islam as a whole. A really important example of Muslim Americans Being stereotyped is through racial profiling. According to the American Civil Liberties Union or the ACLU on page 21, “Racial Profiling is the discriminatory by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based off of race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin.”(Nelson 21) Some people wouldn’t consider what has been happening to Muslim Americans to be profiling of these religions but since 9/11 it has been quite evident that people start to stereotype Muslims as terrorists. This is also indicated in the ACLU also states on page 21 that, “Another example of racial profiling profiling is the targeting, ongoing since the September 11th attack, of Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians for the detention on minor immigrant violations in the absence of any connection to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.”(Nelson 21) Because of these stereotyping tendencies through profiling these people as possible threats a lot of people tend to stereotype most Muslims that are open about their religion because of what others that have done, and have the same religion as
