As the old saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover, however, judging someone based on the type of music that is in their music library is a whole nother story. There have been various studies done that have showed that the type of music a person listens to affects how they view the world and form different opinions. The completed research also showed that people make assumptions about people based on what kind of music they listen to such as ethnicity, background, social status, political views and even world views. For example, people usually consider people that listen to rock music are rambunctious, rude and probably not very good people. The outlines for each musical genre were reliable and differed prominently from each other, signifying that stereotypes are both clearly discriminated and defended by many themes. The consensus showed that people who listened to jazz music were kind, accountable and passionate. However, people who listened to rap music were found to be more active, aggressive and healthy . Classical music was mostly associated with white people and upper class while rap music related to black people and lower class. Music isn’t something you can just hear, it’s also something you can see and feel. Usually, most musicians and people dress based on what type of music they listen to or make. Music has had a tremendous impact in the fashion industry since around the 1920s when jazz music became popular. Then the jazz genre influenced early versions of hip-hop which included groups like A Tribe Called Quest along with Tupac and Biggie Smalls which brought brands like Timberland, Carhartt, Coogi and Versace into the mainstream of fashion. For example, the wearing of leather clothing came into play because of Pop Rock bands in the 70s, also, hip-hop brought about gold chains and sagging. Although stereotypes don’t always hold true, for the most part they do. You will usually see that if someone listens to hard rock, they will be wearing mostly black usually paired with a long sleeve flannel shirt or if someone listens to country music then you will find that about 90% of them own a pair of boots and most likely wear boot cut jeans paired with a plaid shirt. It just goes to show how much of an impact music can have on your life and how it affects the way you live your
