Clemencia the narrator in the story “Woman Hollering Creek” is a stereotype of the Latina woman. She doesn’t respect marriage, and didn’t stay committed to one man, didn’t seem to care what she did. Sandra Cisneros discusses the stereotypes of Latina women, in the first story young girls that grew up in Mexico and an American culture, wanted to know how it felt to grow up in the United States. In the second story, they were adolescent girls experiencing being brought into existence. The third story were mature woman who explored challenges through family related. These women challenged gender roles due to the struggle towards self-worth and wanting to control over their own destinations. She stated, “I’m vindictive and cruel I’m capable of anything” (68). This quote states that she was capable of doing anything she wanted and wouldn’t even care. Clemencia also states “and it’s not the last time I’ve slept with a man the night his wife is birthing a baby”(76). This tells us how although she was sleeping with man's wife who was giving birth she didn’t seem to care about sleeping with him. Clemencia wasn’t committed to one guy. She stated “Borrowed. That’s how I’ve had my men” (69). This talked about how all her whole relationships she’s never been committed to one man she would even have them borrowed. Clemencia also states “marriage has failed me. Not a man exists who hasn’t disappointed me whom I could trust to love the way I’ve loved”(69). Although she slept with other women’s men she has to come to think that men cheat on their women. Clemencia didn’t respect marriage and took advantage of other women's men. Clemencia stated, “I’m guilty of having caused deliberate pain to other women”(68). She felt bad for causing pain to married women. Clemencia stated “all I know is I was sleeping with your father the night you were born in the same bed… I was sleeping with your father and didn’t give a damn about that woman, your mother”(76).
