Stereotypes Revealed In The Novel Hiroshima, By John Hersey

Being associated with others can be your greatest downfall. Due to the Japanese being allies with the Germans, the German caused war which made Japan suffer. The story created a character to emphasize the stereotypes given to Japan. It showed the vivid meaning behind the Japanese lives. In the non fiction novel “Hiroshima", the author John Hersey uses irony to convey the fact that the Japanese were just like the American people and they both lived similar lives.
Many times people become involved with something due to who they are connected to. In “Hiroshima”, the main character, Hersey, wants the Americans to understand that they're similar in ways and they shouldn't be looked at as enemies. The simple but powerful tone leads to unity with the reader who has likely felt like they were misunderstood or peculiar . Furthermore, through hersey , readers understand that many people can relate to each other's lives and are no different than the other. In the text John Hersey starts to show how one minor mistake can cause a major mishap.” Everything fell, and Miss Sasaki lost consciousness. The Japanese needed to focus more on each other so nothing else would happen to them. For example, Ms.Nakamura looked after Mr.Nakamoto when the explosion happened. “As Ms.Nakamura stood watching her neighbor, everything flashed whiter than any white she had ever seen. '' she heard a child cry,”mother help me!” and saw her youngest -Mykeo , the five-year old child-buried up to her breast band unable to move”. ( Hersey 992 ) . It shows how important it is to observe your surroundings and understand what's going on so you can help. It reveals that coming together and helping each other out can be beneficial. Additionally, through Herseys , readers understand that coming together is more effective. When Dr.Fujii was explaining how the family comes together as a whole in any given situation. “ According to Japanese custom, when a persons falls sick and goes to a hospital , one or more members of his family go and live there with him, to cook for him, bathe, massage , and read to him, and to offer incessant familial sympathy, without which a Japanese patient would be miserable indeed. (Hersey 992). Knowing that Dr.Fujii worked in the hospital , he showed the relationship between the families. Dr.Fujii word choice shows the companionship and solidarity with their fellow families.
